Courses
Since my graduation as a Licenced Instructor with The Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry in 2008 I have taught short courses throughout the UK, introducing many horse owners, farriers and other equine professionals to the science of Applied Equine Podiatry. I feel that it is pertinant to say that the short courses are in no way designed to qualify participants in any way to be a practitioner of Applied Equine Podiatry, or barefoot trimming. They are however designed to introduce the core concepts of foot function, balance and restorative hoofcare in an entertaining approachable way. This information has proven to be invaluable to participants over the years, as an informed horse owner is an empowered horse owner. It is only in providing an environment conducive to healing that we are able to minamise the compromise of domestication, and the IAEP short courses are designed to facilitate exactly that. Veterinarians, farriers and physiotherapists alike also find the science of Applied Equine Podiatry a valuable tool in their practice, indeed many have attended several courses and even continued their studies further with the Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry.
The course structure is part classroom and part dissection. The first day is spent in the classroom where I introduce the core concepts of Applied Equine Podiatry, Begin interactive lecture on The Suspension Theory of Hoof Dynamics, the Science of Applied Equine Podiatry, and Functional Anatomy of the Equine Foot. In the afternoon there is a continuation of the interactive lecture, including coverage of The HPT Model, The HPT Method, and the Spectrum of Usability.
One the second day we reinforce the concepts introduced in the classroom through an interactive application of The HPT Method and cadaver dissection. We then progress to understanding how to evalate foot health in cadavers using the Spectrum of Usability.
I am able to provide most equipment required to run a course, should you be interested in hosting please dont hesitate in contacting me.
"An inspirational weekend which has really opened my eyes to the true function of the structures within the horses' foot, and how it's health and balance have such a profound effect on all of the horse's wellbeing. Extremely interesting and of great benefit to my other work".
"The theory learnt in this course has revolutionised the way I understand hoof biomechanics. It will certainly be an asset to my farriery practice and to my clients".
"I would like to thank Trevor for providing a wonderful environment to study and learn in, and for inspiring me to take responsibility for the care of my horse’s feet...I look forward to seeing you on the next course!"
Trevor has been trimming feet on my yard for some time now and the results have been amazing. Horses that were lame or suffering long term problems, not just with the feet, have come sound. One horse that had been off work for over nine months but the owner was riding him the same day that Trevor first trimmed and treated him! Sound too good to be true? Believe me it’s not once you understand the IAEP method!”
